Curriculum Intent

A high-quality Health and Social Care course provides transferable knowledge and skills that prepare learners for progression to further education or employment training. This involves developing transferable skills that includes: the ability to learn independently, the ability to research actively and methodically and being able to give presentations and being active group members.

Health and Social Care provides sector specific skills and knowledgethat includethe development of key skills that prove your aptitude in health and social care such as interpreting data to assess an individual’s health, process that underpins effective ways of working in health and social care, attitudes that are considered most important in health and social care, including the care values that are vitally important in the sector, and the opportunity to practise applying them and knowledge that underpins effective use of skills, process and attitudes in the sector such as human growth and development.

Health and Social Care provides a vocational context in which learners can develop the knowledge and skills required for particular further study, including: reading technical texts, effective writing, analytical skills and preparation for assessment methods used in degrees. It allows pupils to look at health and social care contexts in depth and apply their theoretical knowledge to these contexts. Pupils also have the experience to put their theoretical knowledge into practice with volunteering opportunities available for cultural capital opportunities.
