Despite the unprecedented levels of disruption to school life since March 2020, the school has continued on its upward trajectory. Below is a summary of some of the main developments since the last inspection in October 2018.

Leadership and Management

Maricourt has seen significant changes in the leadership and management since the last inspection. Not only is there a new Headteacher and five new members of the leadership team, but the school has new Curriculum Leaders in English, Science, RE and Modern Foreign Languages.

Teaching and Learning

The leadership and structure of teaching and learning has been changed which has resulted in more consistently high-quality lessons and greater pupil progress. New internal quality assurance systems have been introduced so best practice can be identified and shared across all subjects. The development of the ‘Maricourt Lesson’ and the ‘Maricourt Book’ is leading to consistency and challenge for all.

Assessment and Target Setting

New assessment procedures have been introduced to clearly identify what students know and can do and, where there are areas for development, intervention strategies are implemented.

Using national data, a new target setting system has been introduced to guarantee ambitious targets are set for all students. Progress against these targets is checked through the robust internal quality assurance processes. This, coupled with the more strategic use of data, is helping to ensure that students in all cohorts are making better progress and achieving better outcomes.

Governors have been heavily involved in the new quality assurance processes and the scrutiny of all areas of the school. New ways of reporting information to governors is resulting in significant change and rapid improvements. As result of their challenge and support, we now have greater transparency and improved systems in all aspects of school life.

Wellbeing and Spiritual Life

The wellbeing of everyone in our school community has always been a priority at Maricourt. We have introduced a new senior leadership position specifically to oversee this and to ensure the school functions coherently to support everyone within the Maricourt family, guaranteeing all students a rich educational experience.

Our new Rewards and Consequences policy is now established and is helping support the excellent behaviour and attitudes to learning here at Maricourt. Our Sixth Form numbers continue to increase with more students securing university places.

Our Mission Statement is being reviewed to ensure it still has a relevance in today’s society and our Catholic ethos is at the heart of everything we do.
