Catch Up Premium:
Coronavirus (Covid-19)
What catch-up funding is
The government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time after school closure. This is especially important for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds. This funding includes:
- a one-off universal £650 million catch up premium for the 2020 to 2021 academic year to ensure that schools have the support they need to help all pupils make up for lost teaching time
- a £350 million National Tutoring Programme to provide additional, targeted support for those children and young people who need the most help.
Additional funding is to be allocated in response to Lockdown in 2021.
Funding allocations
School allocations will be calculated on a per pupil basis.
Mainstream school will get the equivalent of £80 per pupil from reception to year 11.
Payment schedule
The school will be allocated a total of £83,040 in catch up funding for 2020
School will get funding in 3 tranches.
- Autumn 2020 – this is based on the latest available data on pupils in mainstream schools
- Early 2021 – based on updated pupil and place data. This payment will also take account of the initial part payment made in autumn 2020 so that schools will receive a total of £46.67 per pupil or £140 per place across the first 2 payment rounds.
- Summer 2021 term - a further £33.33 per pupil or £100 per place
Using Catch Up Funding
Schools should use this funding for specific activities to support their pupils to catch up for lost teaching, in line with the curriculum expectations during the coronavirus outbreak. While schools can use their funding in a way that suits their cohort and circumstances, they are expected to use this funding for specific activities which will help pupils catch up on missed education.
How Maricourt is identifying and supporting gaps in curriculum learning
All subjects carried out a four week catch up programme in September 2021, to identify the gaps that pupils in each year group had from the first lockdown in 2020. Pupils were then identified for individual support in those subjects. The Curriculum and lessons have been adapted to include recall activities in topics where gaps have been identified.
Further assessment of gaps in knowledge is undertaken during each term and in the first instance, pupils who need catch up support are supported by resources in a dedicated Curriculum Catch Up area on the School Website.
During lockdown 2021, homework has stopped for KS3 and pupils are to use that time to address the gaps using the resources that have been provided in the Curriculum Catch Up area.

Further funding has been spent of providing electronic devices and internet access to our more vulnerable pupils, wellbeing training to support pupils and providing paper resources for all students so they do not fall further behind and can continue to learn away from a computer screen.
