Curriculum Journey

“The simplest and most practical lesson I know… is to resolve to be good today, but better tomorrow.” – Catherine McAuley

At Maricourt, Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is a vital part of forming the whole child—spiritually, morally, socially, and emotionally. Guided by Gospel values and the teachings of the Catholic Church, our PSHE curriculum supports students in developing the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, and responsible lives.

We aim to prepare our students to become compassionate, resilient individuals who contribute positively to their communities and wider society. Through a carefully sequenced programme, we explore key themes including relationships and sex education (RSE), physical and mental wellbeing, financial literacy, online safety, and citizenship. PSHE at Maricourt encourages respectful dialogue, self-reflection, and a deep sense of personal integrity.

Rooted in the legacy of Catherine McAuley and the Mercy tradition, our approach emphasises the dignity of every person, social justice, and the importance of service to others. PSHE is not only a subject, but a living expression of our mission; “With Christ at the centre, we are a community of welcome, compassion and respect… empowered to achieve the extraordinary so as to be the change we want to see in our world.”

"The personal development curriculum provides pupils with the knowledge that they need to be responsible citizens. This includes age-appropriate relationships, sex and health education. Pupils learn about other cultures and beliefs. Teachers prepare pupils well for life in modern Britain". Ofsted 2022
