Curriculum Intent
Our intent is to encourage students to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of digital media. They do this by researching factors that influence product design, use of media codes and conventions, pre-production planning techniques, legal issues and creation/publishing/distribution considerations. Students have the opportunity in iMedia lessons to develop practical skills that can be applied to real-life contexts and work situations by thinking creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically. They have hands on experience designing , planning, creating and reviewing digital media products which are fit for purpose meeting both client and target audience requirements.

GCSE
Students will explore the wide-ranging media industry, from traditional to modern digital platforms, and learn about the different sectors, products and creative job roles within it. They will develop skills in planning and pre-production, understand legal and ethical considerations, and learn how media codes are used to communicate ideas and engage audiences. The course also teaches students how to choose appropriate formats and production methods for different media products, giving them a strong foundation for further study and future careers in creative media.
Students will learn how visual identity helps businesses and brands communicate their values and connect with audiences. They will explore design elements such as logos, typography, colour theory, composition, and user experience, and understand how visual identities work across different platforms and media. They develop practical graphic design skills, how to create original digital graphics and design for real clients.
Students will explore how interactive digital media products are created for games, websites, apps and other digital platforms. They will learn how multimedia elements such as text, images, audio, video and animation are combined with user interface and user experience design to create engaging and immersive products. They will develop practical skills in designing, structuring and building interactive content, as well as selecting and editing multimedia for different purposes.
Sixth form
Students will learn how media institutions operate and create products for specific audiences. They will study ownership models, analysis of media products, audience categorisation and research, and how media is distributed and advertised. This will help students understand how meaning is created and communicated to target audiences.
Students will also learn the importance of pre-production and planning in media projects. They will learn how to research; ensure they consider legal issues and how to plan around constraints like time and resources. Students have experience in creating pre-production documents and plan projects to meet client requirements, gaining essential skills for efficient and successful media production.
