Physical Education at Maricourt Catholic High School is highly valued with a focus on learning the skills that will encourage lifelong participation in physical activity.Key stage 3 it is taught through physical activity in 2 one hour practical lessons both indoors and outdoors, in a wide range of physical, creative and aesthetic settings. It provides pupils with the generic skills, knowledge and understanding they need to become physically literate, and at the same time develop the pupils socially through developing leadership and team work skills. In key stage 4 students have 1 hour of PE per week and gives pupils the opportunity to follow the Sports Leaders UK level 1 course, follow a fit4life course, and Sport Education program. The PE department aims to enthuse and inspire pupils to participate fully and develop a life-long love of physical activity, sport and exercise. As a department we place huge emphasis on extracurricular activities. Both committing to high level of sports clubs and sports fixtures across a range of sporting competitions both locally and at county level.
To provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Fundamental skills should be performed competently, with confidence across a range of sports and physical activities. Pupils will have opportunities to compete in sport and other activities to build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. They should develop the confidence and interest to get involved in exercise, sports and activities out of school and in later life, and understand and apply the long-term health benefits of physical activity.
