Zoe Kenton

My journey started at St Robert Bellarmines. In primary school my favourite subjects were Art and English. Then in 2013 I joined Maricourt, I had no idea what career I wanted to go into until I turned 14, when I became fascinated by the role of a midwife and how they support and empower women. I knew then that everything I did in school was going towards me reaching my goal of becoming a midwife. I loved Maricourt because the teachers really did want you to succeed and would give you all the support you needed to do so such as extra revision classes and also emotional support which was really helpful. My favourite subjects in high school were English and Business. After completing my GCSE’s, I decided to stay at Maricourt in their sixth form to study Psychology, Health and Social Care, and Applied Business Studies. I stayed at Maricourt because I knew the quality of teaching and support I could expect and thoroughly enjoyed my two years at sixth form. Whilst in sixth form, I also received support in things such as completing my personal statement, getting relevant experience needed for my university course and learning transferable skills. Because of this, I was successful in getting into University, where I am now a student midwife at Edge Hill University, I would not have been able to reach this goal without the support from my teachers and peers from Maricourt. My message to young people deciding on what future career path to take would be to work hard at everything you do, even if it does not seem important at the time it could be so beneficial to you when it comes to taking the next step in your future! I would also say to be positive and not give up on anything, even if it seems impossible. I was told I would not be able to become a midwife at such a young age and I thought it would be impossible- but I did not give up and I was able to reach my goals!
