Young Carers Support

Young Carers Support – Maricourt High School
You Are Not Alone

At Maricourt Catholic High School, we understand that some students help care for family members at home. If this sounds like you, support is available.

What Is a Young Carer?

A Young Carer is someone aged 8–19 who helps care for a family member due to:

  • Physical illness
  • Mental health difficulties
  • Disability
  • Drug or alcohol dependency

The person you care for may be:

  • A parent
  • Brother or sister
  • Grandparent
  • Another relative living in your home

You do not need to provide full-time or “hands-on” care to be recognised as a Young Carer. Emotional support, helping around the house, or the impact of a family member’s illness can also affect your wellbeing and daily life.
