At Maricourt, enrichment is an essential part of our mission to provide a holistic, values-driven education rooted in our Mercy ethos. We believe every student should experience a curriculum that extends far beyond the classroom—one that nurtures aspiration, broadens cultural understanding, and supports personal growth. Our trips, visits and enrichment opportunities are designed to be inclusive, inspirational, and transformational, ensuring that every young person has access to meaningful experiences that enhance their learning journey.
An Inclusive and Enriching Offer:
We provide an extensive range of local, national, and international trips across all year groups and curriculum areas. These experiences allow students to deepen their knowledge, develop confidence, and understand the world around them. Guided by our Mercy values of compassion, respect, service, and justice, we ensure that all opportunities are delivered with fairness, dignity, and inclusion at their core.
Subjects regularly organise visits that enable students to apply classroom learning in real-life contexts, helping them recognise their strengths, explore their aspirations, and foster a genuine love for lifelong learning.
Selection Criteria for Residential, Overseas and Reward Trips:
To ensure fairness and consistency, students participating in residential, overseas, and reward-based trips are expected to meet the following criteria:
75% Behaviour Threshold in lessons (Class Charts)
95% attendance to school (with compassionate consideration for exceptional circumstances such as verified medical needs)
No truancy from lessons
No missed detentions
These expectations promote personal responsibility, positive attitudes, and our commitment to an inclusive, values-driven community.
Educational Visits and School Trips
Physical Education & Sport
Physical education and sport are a defining strength of Maricourt. Our PE department offers an extensive programme of individual and team sports and champions the personal development of every student, regardless of starting point. Through an inclusive approach, students are encouraged to discover new talents, challenge themselves and embrace healthy lifestyles.
Maricourt has a proud tradition of sporting excellence at local, county, and national level. Our annual Sports Awards Evening, held at the prestigious Aintree Racecourse, celebrates the achievements of our young athletes and showcases their dedication, discipline, and teamwork.
Annual and International Sports Trips:
Our sporting enrichment programme includes:
The oversubscribed Year 9 & 10 ski trip to the Italian Alps
Year 8 & 9 football development tours to the state-of-the-art Football Salou campus in Spain
Previous residential tours with elite clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Benfica, Ajax, Feyenoord, Villarreal, Newcastle, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough
Girls’ bi-annual netball tour to Euro Disney, including coaching from England netball professionals and participation in an international tournament.
Wimbledon Championships visits, offering students the chance to experience a Grand Slam event.
A wide range of dance-focused trips, workshops and masterclasses led by visiting professionals.
These experiences deepen cultural awareness, celebrate global sporting contributions, and inspire students to pursue excellence.
Curriculum Beyond the Classroom:
Across the wider curriculum, students benefit from:
University visits
Industry days and employer engagement
College taster experiences
Local and national competitions, especially in Mathematics and Computing
These opportunities encourage students to think ambitiously about their future, challenge their assumptions about what they can achieve, and recognise that there are no limits to their potential.
A former student captured this spirit perfectly:
“I loved it at Maricourt because the teachers always pushed me to reach my potential. There were so many opportunities to get involved with — dance clubs, careers events, trips to Alton Towers, York, London, Spain, Italy and even New York.
