High Flyers
We recognise that some of our high achieving students have a different pathway, and we support these students through our 'High Flyers' programme.

At the start of Year 12, the highest achieving students, based on their GCSE results, are invited to join the programme. The programme provides these students with a wealth of support and experience to ensure they reach their full potential and follow their desired pathway.

Oxbridge Conferences

We accompany students aspiring to study at Oxbridge to the 'Annual Oxbridge Conference', where they are given up-to-date information about courses, the application process, admissions procedures at both universities and how to make a competitive application.

Oxbridge and Russell Group University Visits

Our students are given the opportunity to visit either an Oxbridge or Russell Group University to give them a real taste of University life, sample some lectures from leading academics, and speak to current students at the University. This also provides our students with an opportunity to visit prospective accommodation. To support our students through the Oxbridge application process, we arrange for mentor support from Oxbridge Alumni and a mock interview.

Top Work Experience Placements

All of our students are given the opportunity to undertake a programme of work experience. Our High Flyers usually prefer to seek their own placement, however we do support our students with finding an appropriate placement to ensure they get the best possible experience. We pride ourselves on the strong links we have with a number of local employers, enabling us to provide our students with a fantastic and worthwhile work placement, including; Aintree Hospital for our aspiring Medics, law firms for our aspiring solicitors, accountancy practices for our aspiring accountants, and many more.

Professional Mentors

The work experience doesn't end once the placement is over; we maintain links with the employers who provide our students with professional mentor support in their given field, supporting them in University applications along with mock interviews to help them shine at University interviews or future interviews specific to their chosen pathway. Our successful alumni also provide coaching to our current students to support them through the application process.

Pastoral Mentors

Our experienced pastoral team are on hand to support our High Flyers with any additional needs they may have to ensure they feel fully supported throughout their journey through sixth form and beyond

Aptitude Test Preparation

Students applying for competitive courses at University will be expected to sit an Aptitude Test. These tests look for problem solving skills, logical reasoning and essay writing. An experienced team of mathematicians and scientists are on hand to mentor our students through these challenging tests as part of their University application process, which includes additional tuition and working through past test papers.

Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

All of our High Flyers complete the Extended Project which is a research based qualification enabling students to study a topic that they have a particular interest in outside of the classroom. There are no limits to the EPQ and students are encouraged to be creative with their research project. The EPQ is highly valued by Universities due to the skills, experience and expertise students develop as they undertake it.

We work closely with the Confucius institute and offer High Flyers the opportunity to study for a Mandarin qualification. In addition to this, we also offering our students the opportunity to visit China in 2019!

In addition to the support outlined above, we also offer career specific support for students wishing to pursue a career in a particular field, starting with support in choosing appropriate A Levels
