P.E. Trips

At Maricourt we try to offer a wide range of Extra-Curricular Trips and Visits for our pupils. We try to attend Local and National Sporting Events and take our pupils overseas to develop their Skills at top locations, below are some of the trips we have been involved in recent years.

Alpine Ski Trips: 2000 - Present

Each Winter we take around 40 Year 9 & 10 pupils to the French or Italian Alps to learn how to Ski or to develop their technique. In December 2013 we will be taking pupils to the Glacial resort of Passo Tonale in Italy. As well as Skiing, our pupils enjoy a fantastic range of 'Apres Ski' activities that vary depending upon resort.

Would you win Skiier of the Week, or Donkey of the Day? In previous years we have Skied in Aprica (Italy) and Chatel, Villenueve Serre Chevallier, Montgenevre and Monetier les Bans in France.

European Football Tour

Over the May 2014 Bank Holiday Weekend the PE Staff took 35 boys from Years 8 and 10 on a Football Development tour to Villarreal CF in Spain with InspireSport. The boys enjoyed coaching sessions at Villarreal's training ground with their coaches, and a Stadium Tour of El Madrigal followed by a Club Shop visit. They played competitive games against Spanish opposition and took in a La Liga between Levante UD and Atletico Madrid in Valencia.

All boys received medals and certificates with some winning other awards for their performances during our tour. The boys relaxed back at the 4* Hotel with a pool and enjoyed time at the beach in Benicassim. A great weekend that pupils and staff will never forget, Feyenoord in Rotterdam, Holland next year, are you signed up?

London 2012 Olympic Games

Whilst we sadly could not go to London to watch the games, we were part of a Guinness Word Record when the Olympic Torch visited Crosby Beach.

We took a group of pupils who dressed in Yellow and formed part of the largest Human Olympic Rings. We were part of the 5,963 Sefton Schoolchildren that made a New World Record.

Some of pupils were luckily enough to get tickets for the Olympic Football at Old Trafford, Manchester, whilst other met some of our Ladies Hockey Team prior to the games.

Spanish Water Sports Trip

This trip will make a welcome return in Summer 2014 when we will take a group of pupils for a Mediterranean Water Sports Trip to France or Spain for a week in July

Wimbledon Tennis Trip

Our Girls head down to London to take in a show and a days Tennis at the famous All England Club.
Our pupils' find their way onto the show courts and always come home with a handful of autographs from the famous players they see walking from court to court. A fantastic trip that our Girls Tennis Teams and GCSE pupils enjoy each Summer.

Caldestones Tennis Trip

Weather permitting we take our Boys Tennis teams to Calderstones to watch the next generation of Tennis Stars as they start out in their careers (Ladies No 1 Caroline Wozniaki and Laura Robson in recent years). We also get to see retired stars like Greg Rusedski and Martina Hingis showing the skills that made them world famous when they were competing for Grand Slam honours in the not so distant past.

Rugby Union Matches

We try to attend at least one game a season, more if we can. Over the years we have been to Sale RFC, Stockport County's Edgeley Park and more recently to the City of Salford Stadium to watch the Sale Sharks in action in the Premiership and Domestic Cup Games. On occasions our pupils affiliated with Ormskirk Rugby Club have also been ballboys for the Sharks home games.

Rugby League Matches

After the success of our September 2013 Trip to watch the Wigan Warriors take on Castleford in a Super League fixture, we are planning to run similar trips to watch St. Helens, Warrington and Widnes.
At Wigan we also enjoyed a Stadium Tour where we saw the FA Cup and Challenge Shield together for the first time ever, sat in the changing rooms and Chairman's box as well as meeting some players as they arrived.

Badminton Trip

Our pupils have watched the European Championships at the Echo Arena and been to an England v Germany Game at Wigan's Robin Park Sport Centre. On both occasions our pupils met, had photographs with, and collected autographs from Olympic Badminton players like Team GB's Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson.

Coniston Lakes Trip

Each Summer 30 pupils from Year 8 spend a week in the lakes

Netball Trips

We have been to Manchester MEN Arena to watch the England Netball Team play.

Cricket Trips

Each Summer we try to visit Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester to watch Lancashire in a T20 game. Some years we get the chance, to watch the England Team play a T20 International Fixture at the same venue. Our pupils always end up chatting with players at the boundary and meeting the Mascot and having a great evening out.
