Dear Parents/Carers, Pupils/Students present and past,

Thank you so much for all your support over the last twelve years. I am grateful and deeply indebted to the Sisters of Mercy, Governors, Teaching and Support staff who have worked so hard to drive forward higher standards and help nurture our young people's spirituality, creativity and talents.

When I was appointed Headteacher in 2007 I was following in the footsteps of 2 remarkable and visionary Headteachers, Sr. Mary Magdalen and Sr. Mary Teresa. Within a few weeks of my appointment the whole school celebrated Mass at the Cathedral to mark the school's Golden Jubilee. At the end of the service the two Sisters were given a spontaneous standing ovation by all those assembled, a tribute to the Sisters' service, vision, energy and humility. I was humbled by the love and esteem in which they were both held.

I would like to think over the last twelve years the Sisters and our foundress, Catherine McAuley, would have been proud of all that we have achieved as a school community. On Friday 12th July Fr. Grant Maddock celebrated Mass for all the pupils in the school. It was a joyful, uplifting and spiritual occasion and Fr. Grant specifically commented on the respect and reverence of the pupils during the Mass. I was deeply touched by the tributes from Sr. Collette, Chair of the Trustees and Mr. Chris Manning, Chair of Governors, marking my retirement. A wonderful day was rounded off by our sports day, which was, as ever, superbly organised by the PE department.

After 38 years as a teacher of English and 20 years as a Headteacher, firstly in All Saints, Kirkby and then at Maricourt I am retiring to be with my family.

I wish you and your family every happiness for the summer holidays and for the future.
