Anti-Bullying Week 2020
Bullying has no place in Maricourt. Our mission statement refers to values such as respect, friendship and love and these are key to everything we do in our school.

This week, our students will be thinking, reflecting and praying about bullying through their PSHE lessons and collective worship.

Anti-bullying Week is so important that our Head Boy Louis Ennis and our Head Girl Lucy Waring recorded a message for the students of Maricourt. In this message they said:

"Everyone belongs in this school, and everyone should feel included, regardless of their gender, sexuality, race or ethnic background."

We are taking part in Odd Socks Day, which is always held on the first day of Anti-bullying week. As well as being fun, it is an opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique! There is no pressure to wear the latest fashion or for parents to buy expensive clothes. All students need to do is wear odd socks!! A donation of £1 is suggested and will go towards the work of Anti-Bullying Alliance.

We will also be exploring the very common issue of cyberbullying among young people, using the "Stop speak support" slogan to help our students reflect on the devastating consequences of this behaviour. If you are a parent or carer and you are concerned about this issue, there is further information in the following link that also features two excellent organisations, Kidscape and Safe to Net.

The theme of this week is United Against Bullying. We have seen what an impact that our unity had and is still having in the face of the Covid-19 virus. Imagine if we all united against bullying and the impact that could have on schools and communities. This week Maricourt intends to do just that.
