
This course is a "design and make" based course similar to the textiles work that you have done during KS3. You design and make using textiles as a material in a wide range of situations.
The course is assessed as follows:
Controlled assessment-Task 1

Introduction to designing and making, where pupils will develop their creativity and making skills. This unit will be completed in Year 10. (30%)
Making quality, pupils will develop and demonstrate designing and making skills. (30%)
Technical aspects of designing and making
This unit focuses on their knowledge and understanding of textile technology which is assessed through an external exam. Sustainable Design will also be
assessed. (40%)
As well as the design based practical work, you will be required to study Textiles as a material within Design & Technology and will look at, for example, The origins, structure and properties of
fibres and fabrics The processes applied to fabrics during manufacture. The selection of appropriate fabrics for given tasks.
You will also be encouraged to use ICT applications and to
appreciate how CAD/CAM and systems and control are used in the textile industry.
An interest in Textiles and Fashion Design and a commitment to bring fabric into school are essential for
success on this course.
