Physical Education
Physical Education at Maricourt has extensive facilities to enrich the curriculum to provide a platform for sporting activities, competitions and events. These include a gymnasium, sports hall, fitness suite, tennis courts and a sports field for athletics and outdoor sports.

Students are taught a number of practical activities and will have the opportunity to take part in a range of traditional practical activities and individual activities such as Judo or Climbing.

Students will then be marked on their 4 best activities. Students will also have the opportunity to take the role as a leader, or referee. They will also need to show observation and analysis skills.

Over the winter term the Girls PE teams have had much success.
The girls have been a credit to the school and have competed in league, Merseyside Cup and Sefton competitions in a range of sports.

In football the U14 team has reached the final of the Merseyside Cup, this will be played on the next half term. U16 are competing in the Semi-Final of the Merseyside Cup and U13 team came 3rd in the Sefton tournament. The girls have taken part in the annual Sefton Hockey tournament, with the year 7 team winning 2 games and losing 2 and year 9 and 10 coming in 3rd place. In other league fixtures we beat Deyes high school 3-1.

Our annual Inter-Form competition with our key stage 3 pupils has been a great success. There were some great netball skills on show and all girls competed at a really high standard. At the end there were 3 forms that won in each year group, Congratulations to 7F, 7P, 8C, 8H, 9A and 9P. Well Done Girls!

Smash it Up Badminton Club has been a great success this year, pupils from all years in school have be coming at lunch and after school to play some fun and exciting games of badminton with their peers and had some top class coaching along the way. Plan your legacy grant

We have been successful in a bid for a grant off the Olympic association to develop sitting volleyball in our school and cluster primary schools. We will use the grant to train up staff, young leaders and any community groups that would like to be involved to create a Paralympic legacy in Maricourt and the Sefton Community. We invited UK Sitting Volleyball Development Manager Richard Stacey Chapman to Maricourt, to put on a sitting volleyball coaching course for our young leaders. In this coaching course JSLA students developed their knowledge of rules, skills and tactics of Sitting Volleyball, and played a tournament. The students also developed their organisational skills and will be leading a day of Sitting Volleyball coaching and a tournament later on in the summer term. Well done to all those involved!

Maricourt G&T Day

On Wednesday 12th March we invited 1998 Commonwealth Light Heavyweight champion Courtney Fry to work with our Key Stage 3 G+T cohort. Maricourt has been signed up to the Sky Sports Initiative "Living for Sport" where Secondary schools run projects, led by pupils. Courtney is an athlete mentor to our student, and visits us twice an academic year to check up on our extensive pupil leadership projects. Our year 7-9 G+T students were lucky enough to take part in a boxing practical session with Courtney, working on their footwork, jabs, hooks and combination punches. All students enjoyed their time with Courtney, who kindly brought in his Commonwealth gold medal in. Well done to all who took part!
