
As well as the design-based practical work you will be required to study Food as a material within Design & Technology and will look at, for example:
- Food characteristics, food commodities.
- The nutrients found in a wide range of foods, diet and modifying recipes.
- The ways in which food can be cooked, served, stored, processed and preserved.
- The choice and preparation of food for different groups of people.
- Factors affecting food choice Preservation. Health and safety.

An interest in food and a commitment to bring ingredients into school on a regular basis are essential for success on this course.
