The Scholarship programme is intended to harness the ambition and academic purpose of pupils joining the school. Those children with the highest attainment at the end of KS2 and who have
scored highly in CATS testing, are required to join the programme. However, as we at Maricourt believe that intelligence is not 'fixed' but can be developed, the programme is also open to
any pupil who is committed to academic excellence.
In Years 7 & 8, scholars attend a meeting each half term during PSHE. These meetings are designed to build pupils' 'cultural capital'
and are led by guest speakers who deliver workshops on topics ranging from engineering to Russian short stories. We also aim to run one trip each half term. In the past pupils have visited
Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine to learn about anti-venom and worked with the archivists at Liverpool Library to research graves in Anfield cemetery.
Pupils are expected to complete an extended independent project, during the course of Y7. This project is accredited by Edexcel at Level 1.
The progress of scholars will be tracked by the Scholarship team and the Assistant Headteacher responsible is present at parents evenings to speak to parents about progress.
