Learning to pray in Lent
One of the things that Christians are asked to do during Lent is to pray. For most of our students, life is so hectic and busy that they rarely get a moment to stop and reflect, to take time out and simply be. Maricourt Chaplaincy have teamed up with Hope Community Church, Maghull Baptist Church and Youth for Christ to create the "Prayer space" in the chapel.
Our students are coming in every day to learn how to pray and the many ways that prayer can be done. They use ribbons, paints, videos, mirrors, post-it notes, jenga blocks, prayer chains and clothes pegs to pray!! Some of the highlights of the prayer space are the "Pray for staff" wall, where our students pray for their teachers; the prayer tent where the students simply chill and reflect on their lives and take time out; the mirror in which students look at themselves and pick one of the prayer quotes that remind them they are created by God and perfect just as they are! The students have commented that their time in the prayer space is relaxing, restful, prayerful and meaningful. And best of all - they want to come back in again!
