Former Pupils

At Maricourt we try to encourage our Elite Sports performers to fulfil their potential in whatever sport they participate in. The school offer the pupils the chance to play in competitive fixtures and allow time from School like the Football Day Release Programme, or time off to represent their Club and Country to support pupils in trying to achieve their sporting dreams.

Below is a round up of some of our most successful former pupils:

Michael Symes: 1995-2000

Centre Forward Michael left Maricourt for a Scholarship with Everton FC where he partnered a certain Wayne Rooney in the Blues Youth Team forward line. Michael was loaned out to Crewe Alexander where he scored his first goal in League Football, he later moved to Bradford City who loaned him to Macclesfield Town, Stockport County and Shrewsbury Town. He then completed a move to Shrewsbury Town before joining Macclesfield on loan again. He was also loaned to AFC Bournemouth and Accrington Stanley before making the permanent switch to Stanley. A move back to Bournemouth followed with a loan to Rochdale, and a transfer to Leyton Orient in 2012. Symes has so far scored over 50 goals in Leagues 1 & 2.

Paul Brown: 1996-2001 Workington

Tranmere Rovers took Paul as a Scholar in 2001 and he went on to make his debut in the first team for the Birkenhead Club in 2004. After a loan spell at Accrington Stanley Paul left Tranmere and dropped down to play in the lower leagues where he has represented Barrow, Droylsden, Witton Albion, Vauxhall Motors, Marine and current Club Workington. In the midst of all of these transfers Paul spent the 2007 season playing for Kingston City in Australia and won an International Cap for the England C Team in 2009 against Malta.

Stephen Darby: 2000 - 2005 Bradford City FC

Captain of Liverpool's Successful Youth Cup Final Winning team in 2006 and a winning player once again in 2007, Stephen went on to Captain Liverpool reserve team in 2007-08 season where he Won Player of the Year in the League Winning team. He made a handful of appearances for the Reds first team including a Champions League game with Fiorentina at Anfield and a man of the match performance against Tottenham at White Heart Lane. In May 2007 Stephen represented the England Under 19's at the UEFA European Championships. Having been named in the Premier League and European Squads for Liverpool, Stephen was often loaned out to gain first team experience. Stephen enjoyed the end of the 2009-10 Season at Swindon where he enjoyed a Play-off Final at Wembley after scoring the deciding penalty in the Semi-Final tie with Charlton Athletic. He spent most of the next season at Notts County, and the following season at Rochdale where he played over 40 games. Stephen left the Reds for regular first team action and is enjoying his time at Bradford City where he will play in the 2012 League Cup Final after wins Giant-killing Cup wins against Arsenal and Aston Villa along the way. Not just a Footballer, Stephen was also an excellent Athlete and still holds the School Records for the Year 7 3000m and the Year 8 High Jump.

Jimmy Ryan: 2000 - 2005 Scunthorpe United FC

Still a School Record Holder for the most points scored by a Year 7 in a Rugby season. Jimmy represented the Maricourt Football, Rugby, Athletics, Tennis and Cricket Teams in his 5 years with us excelling in all of the sports he played. A product of Liverpool's Academy, Jimmy won the FA Youth Cup in 2006 and 2007 alongside Stephen Darby. He then enjoyed a loan spell with Shrewsbury Town before heading to Accrington Stanley in a permanent deal. At the Stanley Jimmy played a key part in their Play-off campaign and was voted into the PFA League 2 Team of the Year in 2011 (the only Accrington Stanley player to ever win this honour). His performance helped him move up to League 1 when Scunthorpe United FC signed him in the Summer of 2011. Jimmy has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under 16 and Under 21 level where he scored once in his 4 games.

Michael Waywell: 2000-2005 Fylde Rugby Club

Our most decorated former pupil that plays with the oval shaped ball. Mike always played for local club Ormskirk RFC during his time at Maricourt and spent hours practicing his technique and helping our younger players. He also represented Merseyside and Lancashire Schoolboys as well as being involved with the North of England Training Groups. Mike left Maricourt for Myerscough College then Manchester University where he also signed to Sale Sharks Jets, the Professionals Under 21 team. Whilst Mike never made a first team appearance for Sale he did play in former England and British Lion Jason Robinsons Testimonial game at Edgeley Park. Mike then made the move to Fylde where he Won the League playing alongside Jason Robinson, his form caught the eye of England selectors and Mike represented England Counties. He recently took the opportunity to play for Kowloon in Hong Kong before returning to Fylde in 2013. Mike also has his own business running 'Steel Habitat' Fitness Camps using the knowledge and skills that he no doubt picked up at Maricourt!

Simon Richman: 2001-2006 Altringham

Simon spent his Maricourt years attached to Bolton Wanderers FC but signed a Scholarship with Port Vale FC, by 2007-08 he had progressed through the reserves and into the first team. In?? 2008-09 he played a number of matches and Won the clubs Young Player of the Year Award. After a series of managerial changes at Vale he left for Worcester City in 2010 and later joined Altrincham in the Conference North League.

Craig O'Donoghue: 2002-2007 Everton FC Academy Coach

Craig was an excellent Goalkeeper and represented Great Britain Catholic Schools at the FISEC Games in 2008. Craig's love of Football also extended beyond playing and he volunteered countless hours to help coach our youngsters. Having worked with Everton Academy Coaches on the Mini-kickers programme Craig was offered a job coaching for Everton. He is currently a Community Coach based at Finch Farm and also singing as a Crooner.

Michael Roberts: 2003-2008

Signed by Liverpool from Tranmere Rovers in 2008. Defensive Midfielder Michael progressed through the Under 18's to be a regular in the reserve team by 2011-12. In 2012 Michael left Liverpool.

Adam Cummins: 2004-2009 Motherwell FC

One of our first Footballing Twins at Maricourt, Centre Half Adam captained our 2007 Echo Cup Final team when we shared the trophy with SFX. Adam didn't just play Football for us, he represented the Schools Rugby Union and Rugby League Teams as well as being a competitive Athlete and excellent Cricketer. Adam left Maricourt for a Scholarship with Everton FC, after 2 years at Finch Farm Adam decided to sign for SPL team Motherwell FC to get first team football. In 2011-12 Adam forced his way into the first team squad at just 19, and by 2012-13 Adam has established himself as a regular starter, already playing games in the Champions League, Europa League and SPL. The move up north has worked well for Adam who has kept up his knack of scoring from the scores from the back.

Luke Dobie: 2004-2009 Bristol City FC

Midfielder Dobie was at Everton when he joined Maricourt in 2004. As well as being a talented footballer, Luke also played Rugby Union and Rugby League, as well as competing at Athletics. Luke still holds our Year 7 200m record as well as the 4x100m Relay record with fellow footballers Alex Whittle and Craig Roddan. Luke left Everton in 2011 to sign for Middlesbrough FC. In 2012 he was loaned to Accrington Stanley where he made his League debut before returning back to the North East. In 2012 Luke left 'Boro and made the move South to Bristol City where he hopes to enjoy more game time in the Championship League.

Craig Roddan: 2004-2009 Liverpool FC

Liverpool signed Craig from Wigan whilst he was still at Maricourt. Craig was another of our exceptional sportsman representing the Rugby Union and Rugby League teams as well as being a tremendous Athlete. Craig still holds the School records for the Year 7 and Year 9 1500m, as well as the 4x100m Relay record with fellow footballers Alex Whittle and Luke Dobie. He also holds the Year 8 1 mile record and has one of the highest levels our pupils have ever achieved on the Multi-Stage Fitness Test. Craig is still at Liverpool where he has progressed through the Under 18's and Under 21 teams, last season he played regularly for the reserve team in 2011-12.

Joe Rafferty: 2005-2010 Rochdale FC

Currently playing Right back for Rochdale FC in League 2, Joseph was a member of our Football and Athletics Teams and still holds the School record as part of our Year 8 4x100m Relay Team. Joe still holds the Year 9 Record for scoring 4 Hat-tricks in a single season and is in our Top 10 all time goalscorers from when he played up-front. Joe left us to join Liverpool on a Scholarship in 2010, and in 2011 he captained the Youth Team before leaving the Reds in 2012 to get first team football with Rochdale.

Alex Whittle: 2004-2009 Dunfermline Athletic FC

Midfielder Alex was playing for Liverpool when he arrived at Maricourt and went on to sign a Scholarship with the Anfield Club. Alex was a keen Sportsman who played Rugby Union and Rugby League as well as competing at Athletics. Alex still holds our Year 7 4x100m Relay record with Luke Dobie and Craig Roddan. Alex;s progress at Liverpool led to him being in the England Under 16's squad for the 2008 Victory Shield Campaign. After leaving Liverpool Alex signed up to the Glenn Hoddle then Nike Football Academy Programmes. His performances here impressed Dunfermline FC who signed him up to play in the Scottish First Division for 2012-2013. Alex is currently involved in the first team squad and has made 10 appearances so far this season.

Peter Aylmer: 2005-2010 Wigan Athletic FC

A talented midfielder currently with Wigan Athletic FC, Peter completed his Scholarship alongside Joe Rafferty at Liverpool before leaving in 2012. Another Footballer with many talents, Peter represented our Rugby and Athletics teams and still holds School Records for Year 8 400m and 4x100m Relay.

Jordan Holmes: 2006-2011 Tranmere Rovers FC

Centre Forward Jordan left Maricourt for a Scholarship with Tranmere in July 2011, he will be hoping for a professional deal for the 2013-14 season. An Echo Cup Winner and goalscorer in 2009, Jordan is our 2nd Top goalscorer of all time, as well as an excellent Rugby player, Basketballer and Cricketer.

John Holmes: 2006-2011 Tranmere Rovers FC

John left Maricourt for a Scholarship with Tranmere in July 2011, he will be hoping for a professional deal for the 2013-14 season. Captain of our Echo Cup Winning team in 2009, John was an excellent Rugby player, Basketballer and Cricketer.

Liam Nolan: 2006-2011 Crewe Alexander FC

Having spent time at Liverppol and Everton, midfielder Liam left Maricourt for a Scholarship with Crewe Alexander in July 2011, he will be hoping for a professional deal for the 2013-14 season after his progress in the Youth team this season. An Echo Cup Winner in 2009, Liam won a number of honours with our Football team.

Paul Lewis: 2006-2011 Macclesfield Town FC

Having spent over 5 years at Everton, midfielder Paul left Maricourt for a Scholarship with Macclesfield Town in July 2011, he will be hoping for a professional deal for the 2013-14 season.

George Green: 2010-2012 Everton FC

George arrived late to Maricourt following his move to Everton from Bradford City. George was unable to represent our teams due to his Everton commitments but did gain England honours at U16/ U17 level, scoring a goal on his England debut in Madrid against Spain as a Maricourt pupil. Hopefully George will go on to fulfill his potential.

Aaron McGowan: 2007-2012 Morecambe FC

Aaron was selected for Morecambe FC's First Team Squad for their 4-1 League 2 victory over York City in February 2013. At just 16 1/2, Aaron made history being the youngest player ever called up for 1st team involvement. During his time at Maricourt Aaron won Sefton League Titles, Sefton Cups and the Merseyside Cup.

His consistently high level of performance helped him to play and captain Sefton Schoolboys, from here he progressed to captain the Merseyside Schoolboys and finally represented the Great Britain Catholic Schools Football Team in Malta last Summer before signing terms with Morecambe.

Daniel Dunleavy: 2007-2012 Morecambe FC

Having spent time at a number of clubs like Preston North End, midfielder Daniel left Maricourt for a Scholarship with Morecambe in July 2012, he will be hoping for a professional deal for the 2014-15 season.

Conor Grant: 2006-2011 Everton FC

A very talented left footed midfielder nicknamed 'Sheedy' was Everton's U18 player of the Season in 2011-2012 Conor has played at Everton throughout his time at Maricourt. Not just a talented Footballer, Conor also played Basketball and is the School Record Holder over the Year 7 Hurdles.

Josh Dobie: 2009-2014 Liverpool FC

Josh follows in the footsteps of his brother Luke who also left us for a Scholarship. A former Maricourt League Winner and Cup Finalist, we wish Josh all the best during his time at Liverpool.

Anthony Cato: 2009-2014 Blackpool FC

Anthony leaves us to join Blackpool for his 2 year football Scholarship, a League Winner and Cup Finalist with Maricourt, we hope he goes on to achieve more success in Football, Good luck Anthony
